The only all-vegetarian Newari kitchen in Irving

Everything at Jeri Swari is vegetarian, not as a concept but because a great deal of Newari cooking simply is. Most Nepali restaurants in DFW cook Newari dishes alongside buff, chicken and mutton. We don't.

  • Newari, not generic Nepali

Not an Indian menu with momo added. Kathmandu Valley cooking: chatamari, bara, and the khaja set as it is actually served.

  • Dishes you won't easily find in Texas

Yomari, haluwa swari, and the jeri swari we are named for.

  • Vegetarian without exception

Not a vegetarian section of a longer menu. The entire kitchen, every day.

Why the name

Jeri and swari are breakfast.

In Newar households across the Kathmandu Valley, jeri arrives beside swari. Jeri is coils of batter fried and dropped into syrup; swari is a flat bread pulled into thin layers. You eat them together, early, standing up, usually with tea.

We took the name because it is the least ceremonious thing we make. The feast food is here too: the Newari khaja set, haluwa swari, yomari. But the name is the ordinary morning, which is the part we miss most.
